Description

The Onga LeisureTime LTP750 is a genuine Pentair 1.0 hp pool pump for domestic filtration, pool and spa circulation, above-ground pools and correctly sized solar-heating systems. It occupies the useful middle position in the LeisureTime range: more hydraulic capacity than the LTP550, while retaining a compact 535 mm body and familiar 40/50 mm Onga union arrangement. Pentair currently lists the LTP750 for pools and spas up to 90,000 litres, provided the pump is matched to the real system head and connected equipment.

The manufacturer performance curve indicates approximately 210 litres per minute at 8 metres of head. This operating point can support larger water volumes and more demanding circulation layouts than the LTP550, but pump selection should always account for pipework, filter resistance, suction lift, cleaners, heaters and the vertical lift of any roof-mounted solar collectors.

LTP750 at a glance: 1.0 hp nominal output, 930 W input power, 230–240 V single phase, approximately 210 L/min at 8 m head, IPX5 TEFC motor, 40 mm socket/50 mm spigot self-aligning unions, 535 × 180 × 283 mm dimensions and 2-year manufacturer warranty.

Key benefits of the Onga LeisureTime LTP750

  • Balanced capacity for domestic pools: The LTP750 is designed for owners who need more circulation than a 0.75 hp pump without immediately moving to the largest LeisureTime model.
  • Proven single-speed design: A simple heavy-duty pump and motor arrangement provides consistent filtration flow with no speed programming required.
  • Self-priming operation: Once the wet end has been filled correctly and the suction line is airtight, the pump is designed to establish and maintain prime in a typical pool installation.
  • 5-degree self-aligning unions: Limited union movement helps line up existing pool plumbing during replacements and can reduce stress caused by minor pipe misalignment.
  • Two common connection sizes: Each ABS barrel union accepts 40 mm pipe as a socket connection or 50 mm pipe as a spigot connection.
  • High-strength wet end: Fibre-reinforced polypropylene casing and glass-filled ABS pump components provide structural strength and corrosion resistance.
  • Protected motor: The TEFC 2-pole motor has an IPX5 enclosure, Class F windings and internal thermal overload to guard against overheating.
  • Corrosion-resistant drive components: Pentair specifies a 316 stainless-steel motor shaft, epoxy-coated cast-iron end shield and carbon-ceramic mechanical seal.
  • Raised motor mount: The elevated foot keeps the motor above normal ground moisture and helps prevent leaves and debris from accumulating around the housing.
  • Low-effort basket maintenance: The clear polycarbonate lid reveals debris at a glance, and the low-friction nitrile lid O-ring is intended to be tightened and released by hand.

Best applications for an LTP750

  • Medium to larger domestic in-ground swimming pools
  • Above-ground pools that require a 1.0 hp circulation pump
  • Residential spas where the calculated filtration duty falls within the LTP750 curve
  • Dedicated solar pool-heating circulation, after allowing for collector height and friction loss
  • Like-for-like replacement of an existing Onga LTP750
  • Common retrofit situations involving an Onga Pantera PPP750, BR465 or earlier 661-1 pump, after dimensional verification

The pump is intended for clean, non-aggressive water without solids or fibres in suspension. It is not a general-purpose dirty-water, irrigation or dewatering pump. Maintain pool chemistry within equipment limits and confirm suitability with Pentair if the water has unusual salinity or chemistry.

Pool turnover and pump-sizing guide

Start with the circulation rate your pool needs, then determine whether the LTP750 supplies that rate at the estimated total dynamic head. For an eight-hour theoretical turnover, a 90,000 L pool requires an average of 187.5 L/min before allowing for operating conditions. The LTP750 curve is approximately 210 L/min at 8 m head, but a restrictive filter, long suction run or rooftop solar loop can move the actual duty point considerably.

  1. Pool volume ÷ turnover minutes = target flow. Use the turnover period recommended for your pool and local conditions rather than assuming one universal number.
  2. Estimate total dynamic head. Include suction lift, pipe friction, valves, fittings, filter pressure and the resistance of heaters or cleaners.
  3. Plot flow against head. Select the model whose curve crosses the required operating point with an appropriate margin.
  4. Protect the rest of the system. Do not exceed the rated flow of the filter, chlorinator, heat exchanger, solar collectors or plumbing.

Why not size by horsepower alone? Two 1.0 hp pumps can produce different flow and pressure curves. The operating duty point is what determines whether water is actually moved through your specific system.

Replacing an LTP750, PPP750 or BR465

For an existing LTP750, staying with the same model preserves the familiar casing length, plumbing layout and performance class. Retailers and service specialists also commonly nominate the LTP750 as a retrofit for the Onga Pantera PPP750, BR465 and 661-1. The universal 40/50 mm unions and 5-degree alignment range are helpful, but older equipment pads and pipework are not always identical.

Measure the old unit before ordering: the LTP750 is 535 mm long, 180 mm wide and approximately 283 mm high. Confirm inlet and outlet centre positions, base holes, 160 mm or greater lid-removal clearance, electrical lead and plug arrangement, and the pump’s required flow. If the existing pump failed because it was oversized, ran dry or operated with a leaking seal, correct the underlying issue before installing the replacement.

Installation, priming and care

  • Install on a firm, flat and vibration-free base with drainage, airflow and service access.
  • Position the suction inlet as close to pool-water level as practical. Suction lift of 3–6 m reduces performance; Pentair advises that more than 6 m can prevent pumping and cause loss of prime.
  • Fill the casing and strainer with water before startup. Check that the clear lid, union O-rings and suction joints are clean and airtight.
  • Hand-tighten unions and the strainer lid only. Use compatible O-ring lubricant during maintenance; do not use tools to force the lid.
  • Empty the hair-and-lint basket weekly or sooner when debris is heavy. Restricted flow increases filtration time and reduces performance.
  • Each month, inspect union joints and beneath the pump for leaks. A leak between the casing and motor can indicate a mechanical-seal issue requiring prompt service.
  • Keep motor fins and the surrounding area clear of dirt, vegetation, insects and stored chemicals.
  • Have electrical installation and placement checked by a qualified person against the current Pentair manual and applicable Australian requirements.

Onga LTP750 FAQs

How many litres is the Onga LTP750 designed for?

Pentair’s current LeisureTime range page recommends the LTP750 for pools and spas up to 90,000 litres. This does not replace hydraulic sizing; confirm the required flow, head, filter rating and other equipment before ordering.

What flow does an LTP750 produce?

The manufacturer curve shows approximately 210 L/min at 8 m of head. Flow will be higher at lower head and lower at higher head, so use the curve rather than treating 210 L/min as a fixed output.

What is the difference between 930 W input and 700 W output?

P1 is the electrical power drawn by the pump under the rated test condition; P2 is the mechanical motor output. Pentair lists the LTP750 as 930 W P1, 700 W P2 and 1.0 hp nominal. Product names or older listings that say “750 W” may be referring to the model class rather than current P1 data.

How much does the LTP750 cost to run?

For a simple estimate, multiply the 0.93 kW rated input by your electricity price per kWh and the number of running hours. For example, the hourly formula is 0.93 × tariff. Real consumption and required run time vary by system and season.

Will an LTP750 connect to 50 mm plumbing?

Yes. Its union is a 50 mm spigot externally and a 40 mm socket internally. Check how your existing pipe and fittings are configured before installation.

Can the LTP750 replace a PPP750 or BR465?

It is widely used as an equivalent Onga retrofit for PPP750 and BR465 installations. Confirm dimensions, pipe centres, base holes, electrical requirements and the original system duty, as site alterations can affect fit.

Can I use the LTP750 with solar pool heating or a suction cleaner?

It can be suitable for both, but each adds hydraulic demand. Check the solar collector or cleaner flow requirement, the filter rating and the pump curve at the calculated head. Do not assume that a 1.0 hp label guarantees compatibility.

How often should the strainer basket be cleaned?

Pentair recommends inspecting and emptying the trap basket weekly, with more frequent cleaning when leaf load is high. Also check monthly for union leaks, seal leakage, blocked motor airflow and pest debris.

What warranty comes with the Onga LTP750?

The current manufacturer literature states a 2-year warranty, subject to Pentair’s terms and correct installation and use. Retain proof of purchase and the pump serial number.
